The first observation tower, that was built at the top of Strážiště Hill above Chomutov, was an 8 m tall gloriette that offered its visitors coming mostly from Chomutov not only views but also refreshments.

The building is situated at the top of Strážiště ca 2 km north of the centre of Chomutov at 511 metres above sea level. The observation tower offers good views over the Krušné Mountains, the towns of Chomutov and Jirkov, Mt. Milešovka in České středohoří (Central Bohemian Uplands) and Říp Mountain. You can reach the observation tower by car. From Chomutov set off towards Blatno and behind the town turn right into the forest track (yellow marked tourist trail) that will take you all the way to the top.
