Perched atop a rocky cliff where the Ploučnice and Elbe rivers meet, Děčín Castle is one of the most remarkable monuments of northern Bohemia. In the past several hundred years it has served as a point of control for the Bohemian princes, a military fortress, and an estate of several major noble houses. A number of famous figures from European monarchs to artists can be found among its visitors. For instance Chopin composed his remarkable Děčín Waltz here. Thanks to vast reconstruction the Castle is being returned to its former splendour. Visitors may stroll through the original owner's quarters, enjoy the beautiful view of the town, and get carried away by the unique atmosphere of the Rose Garden.
