If you are interested in romance and history, you should not miss the opportunity to visit Duchcov Chateau. The origins of this estate date back to the Middle Ages. Since 1527 Duchcov was owned by the House of Lobkowicz who built a Renaissance chateau here and in 1641 the estate was taken over by the House of Valdštejn (Waldstein). The chateau houses an exhibition on the development of period furniture presented by the Art and Industrial Museum; there are also some pieces of Czech Baroque art from the collection of the National Gallery, and most importantly there is an exhibition on Giacomo Casanova who spent the last 13 years of his life working as a librarian for Valdštejn and who wrote his Memoirs there.
