Hřensko is an important rock climbing area situated in the heart of Czech Saxon Switzerland and it is divided into two extensive groups. The group named Soutěsky comprises towers scattered in the valley of the breathtaking canyon of the Kamenice River. The towers are of soft, sometimes flaky sandstone (ban on climbing when wet) and they are not very high.
This group is accessible from the road from Hřensko to Mezní Louka and from the turning for Mezné (ČSAD bus stops Hřensko-Soutěsky, Mezní Louka and Mezná), and from the road from Růžová to Janov ( ČSAD bus stop Janov-Na hájenkách). The Pravčická Gate group consists of towers scattered along the rocky ridges north of the road from Hřensko to Mezní Louka (ČSAD bus stops Hřensko-Soutěsky, Hřensko-Pravčická brána and Mezní Louka). These towers are also made of soft sandstone and it is prohibited to climb in wet conditions. Some of the towers are quite high and they are also attractive for climbing thanks to the unique natural scenery. The pass is very popular with tourists and holiday makers, which has a negative impact on the environment. We would like to remind climbers to observe the Visitors' Rules for the Elbe Sandstone Protected Landscape Area this area is a part of. There is a nature trail providing more detailed information on the natural points of interest. There is a campsite near the Mezní Louka Hotel. Out of season it is fairly difficult to access the pass as the lower parts are closed off. Springs of drinking water can be found in the bottom part of the Suchá Bělá Valley.
