Brana do Čech

Our starting point is the village of Krásný Dvůr, where we will find a chateau with the same name. We may park our car directly in the village or at the paid parking lot near the chateau. The Chateau was built on the location of a former fortress and took its current appearance after an extensive reconstruction performed between 1720 and 1724. The actual reconstruction began thanks to the efforts of Josef Czernin. The chateau also includes a large English park After visiting the chateau we will follow the green signs towards "Obelisk". Our road will take us through a park with many romantic buildings such as the Obelisk of the Chinese Pavilion, Lord's Temple, Red hunting cottage and many more. The high aesthetic and landscape value of this park is further increased by its many commemorative trees, especially ancient oaks, from which the oldest one is about 1000 years old. From the Obelisk crossroad we continue to follow the green signs for 1 km until we reach the beginning of the village of Brody.
Here the park ends and we are walking on a road which will eventually go uphill /2/ and bring us to the village of Nepomyšl. We will notice the original Gothic Church of St. Mikuláš (Nicholas), modified in the Baroque style and also a chateau with a ground plan shaped as a multi-polygon (on the outside the polygon has sixteen sides and in the courtyard the polygon has nine sides). Both objects have deteriorated over time and are in very bad condition today. Before the chateau we must take a left turn and join the road going to Vroutek. Behind the village we will pass by Nepomyšl Pond which is used as a public swimming pool during the summer. Now, we have 7 kilometres of a comfortable climb in front of us going through a hilly and agricultural countryside. If you prefer riding through the woods before riding on a road you may take the educational trail of the Forests of the Czech Republic. You will find the educational trail behind Kružím village. It will take you over slopes and through Mlýnecký les (Mlýnecký Forest).
From Vroutek – a typical small hop-growing town, we continue to follow the road to Kryry. Here we may climb above the town up to Kostelní vrch (Church peak), where an architecturally very interesting viewing tower was built on the location of a former castle. This viewing tower dates back to 1905 and was named after the German poet Schiller. To go to the viewing terrace you must overcome 127 stairs. This tower is only accessible on Saturdays during the spring and summer months. From the viewing terrace you will see a breathtaking view of the Doupovské and Krušné mountains and the Czech Central Mountains.
From the town of Kryry we will follow the green signs towards "Valov" and "Podbořany". The sign will take us behind the town where we continue on a field road around a nice pine tree grove and then straight ahead until we reach the Valov crossroad. From here we will be riding on a road which will take us to the beginning of Podbořany. To follow the green tourist signs which wind up through Podbořany is not easy. If you lose the signs and get lost, try to go back to the centre, where near the church you should take a left turn towards the square and then continue along its right edge. You will pass under a railway track where you will find the green signs again which will lead you out of town. Now we are walking on field paths again, through the village of Hlubany and all the way to Buškovice.
From Buškovice our signs will lead us around the interesting Church of the Virgin Mary with its Gothic centre and adjacent cemetery located near a road which we take and climb, slightly up hill /2/, and then ride down all the way to the village of Brody. From Brody we again go back through the chateau park. This time we may choose to ride back on some of the marked roads which will take us back to our starting point.
