Brana do Čech

Our starting point is the Vitíška – mountain cottage (815 m) offering a breathtaking view of Klinovčík and the surrounding ski slopes. If the visibility is good you may see the steep volcanic slopes of the Českém Středohoří (Czech Central Mountains). We start following the green sign towards Dubí - the last stop on the public transportation road (7 km) After a moderate climb /1-2/ through the forest, offering occasional but beautiful views, we will take a 2 km long downhill ride /1-2/ towards Jedlovka – the hunting cottage. From the hunting cottage we will continue down /2/ for 2 km and then we continue to follow the yellow sign for 0.5 km, around a railway stop, all the way to Dubí – railway stop, bus stop. Here we take a left turn and join the blue tourist sign going towards Cínovec - Pomezí Hotel (4.5 km). Then we must take a steep climb /3-4/ for about 300 m going through a heavily forested slope but without our skis on. We will continue our climb /3/ mostly on a paved forest road until we reach Cínovec – Sedmihůrská cesta (Sedmihůrská Road). Although the Sedmihůrská Road continues straight, we will take a left turn and continue uphill /3/ to the top of Husův vrch (Hus Hill), where the Cínovecký Ridge begins. Hus Hill is a nice place offering wonderful views, and if the visibility is good, you can clearly see the České Středohoří (Czech Central Mountains), Jizerské Mountains and also Krkonoše Mountains - as if they were at your fingertips. Under the peak we will join the professionally maintained Krušnohorská skiing trail, which we take and follow it to Cínovec and to the Pomezí Hotel. The town of Cínovec was founded in the early 14th century as a tin ore mining centre, and later also as silver mining centre. Also a route from Saxony to Bohemia went through here in the early days. Since 1990, tungsten, molybdenum and tin have been actively mined here. Cínovec is one of the most important border crossings between the Czech Republic and Germany. We will go around Cínovec using the Krušnohorská ski trail and then we follow the red tourist sign. When we reach voják (soldier) we take a right turn and join the bike trail No. 3010 towards Moldava – railway stop (6.5 km). Then we ride down /2/ on a maintained cross-country ski trail going along woods and offering beautiful views of the valley, all the way to the Hraniční Brook (Border Brook). We will go around the brook and reach the picturesque German town of Rehefeld - Zaunhaus with its beautiful chateau. While leaving the valley we take a slight climb /1-2/. Do not pay attention to a few cross-country ski tracks turning to the left. After about 2 km or more, we will join the Sklářská Educational Trail (also the yellow tourist sign), going from Moldava until we reach a place called Pod Vitíškou. There we will learn more about the ET called Po stopách středověkého sklářství (In the footsteps of medieval glass making). To go back we will follow the green trail, which goes slightly uphill for about 1 km /2/ and then to the mountain cottage Vitíška. Total length 19 km
