According to a legend, recorded in the Chronicle of Bohemia written down by Václav Hájek of Libočany, the spring was discovered in 762 by Kolostůj pigs that were grazing grass in the woods and accidently got burnt by the hot water of the springs. In reality, Teplice hot springs must have been known well before as golden Celtic and Roman coins where found in the fissure by the springs during the catastrophic event of 1879 when the springs sank into the local terrain.
