The romantic castle ruins are located in the picturesque location of Ptačí důl, ca. 3.5 km from the town of Úštěk. The origins of the castle can be traced back to 1375. At the beginning of the 19th century the ruins of the castle were a popular destination of painters and pilgrims; apparently even the famous poet Karel Hynek Mácha visited this region on his journeys. Only the 30 m tall original castle tower survived and it is now used as an observation tower nearly every day in summer and at weekends.
