In 1691 Count Thun commissioned the construction of the Stations of the Cross, seven of which have been preserved until the present day. The Early Baroque niche chapels are decorated with stone reliefs. The Stations of the Cross used to connect the Loretta Chapel, which was situated in the former china factory, with the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which used to stand on the site where you will now find a pillar of a railway bridge. The Stations of the Cross have suffered much ...

Aquaduct - Chřibská

This aqueduct is classed as a technical landmark that used to be a part of a mill-race dating back to 1886, which was bringing water from Chřibská Kamenice to the weaver's shop of Florian Hübel in Dolní Chřibské. The two-arched aqueduct took some of the water at the height of eight metres above its actual river basin and the water, due to the rugged terrain, flew through two more channels, partly hewn in the rock. The whole construction is in very good ...

Vlčí hrádek (Wolf's Castle)

Only minor remnants of a stronghold, founded in the 14th century under the reign of the House of Berka of Dubé, have survived on the rocky hill between the Rákos and Kunz mines (not far from the Small Wolf Stream). The stronghold probably provided a refuge for glassmakers from the nearby glassworks. Archeological surveys have confirmed that both buildings come from the same period. At the end of the 14th century Vlčí hrádek (the Wolf's Castle) became ...

Baroque Pilgrimage Place Ostré - Úštěk (Ostré)

There is a Baroque pilgrimage place situated on the hill above the village of Ostré, ca. 2.5 km from the town of Úštěk. The place of pilgrimage was constructed by Jesuits in 1703 - 1707 and it is thought that it was built by the well known Italian Baroque builder Octavio Broggio. Stations of the Cross lead to the place, starting at the lower terrace. From there one ascends a wide sandstone staircase with niches and remains of Baroque statues. On the top platform ...
